Richard Hamlin

I just found out about the MIT Strong team and wanted to join.  Although I never met Officer Collier, I too was affected by the tragic and senseless loss of his life, and I am privileged to have this opportunity and proud to officially run the 2014 Boston Marathon in his honor as a member of the MIT Strong team.  I also enjoy some things that Sean did, such as hiking mountains.

I graduated from MIT in 1995, having majored in Mechanical Engineer and minored in Economics.

While I was a student at MIT, I decided that some day I would return to run the Boston Marathon, but I only got around to running it for the first time last year (which I did in 3 hours 6 minutes 28 seconds, a new personal record).  I ran 3 marathons before that, but I only qualified for Boston in my second attempt to do so.

Although I have represented MIT at athletic events many years ago as a member of the MIT Sailing Team (not necessarily very well!), this will actually be my first time representing MIT in a running event! I am hoping to live up to our team name and have strong finish and set a new personal record.

Over 22 years ago, while at MIT, I became vegan and have been ever since.

Currently, I live in Albany, New York and have my own software business.
